Moss walls with reindeer moss

Iceland moss is a shrub lichen that grows like a cushion. It is a close community of forest fungi and algae. Nevertheless, many synonyms are used such as Iceland moss, Irish moss, reindeer moss or fever moss. It is a rigid, scaly and antler-like branching plant.
Iceland moss can grow 4 to 15 cm tall. The plant is known for its healing properties. You may know it from the pharmacy.

Originally, Iceland moss was discovered by the Icelanders as a medicinal herb and used for respiratory diseases such as hoarseness and cough as well as inflammations in the mouth. It was also used just as successfully for chronic pneumonia or bronchitis. The lichen acids of Iceland moss have an antibiotic effect and thus soothe irritations and relieve pain. The medicinal plant can be administered in the form of teas, tinctures or pills.

Moss walls with bale moss

Where does bale moss come from?

The bale moss processed by Moos Moos Manufaktur comes from our own European forests. Collecting bale moss is more like “looking for mushrooms”. It is mainly found in mixed forests that offer optimal humidity and often hides under needles and leaves.

The beautiful bale moss, also called cushion or ball moss, must be collected sustainably and carefully. This is only allowed in private forests. For this reason, only specially trained staff are allowed to undertake this task. A maximum of 20-30 % of the bale moss found may be collected so that it can grow back sufficiently and nature is spared. We use our checkerboard principle, whereby only the white areas are harvested in order to find a closed moss cover again in the future and to protect the environment.

Do you like it rather calm and harmonious? Then opt for a wall covering of plant moss and jungle moss from a combination of reindeer moss and bale moss with sporadically placed ferns, grasses, eucalypthus and other foliage such as clover seed, cypergrus or foxtail. Additional accents can be set with bark, branches or stones. This creates your own little forest floor that exudes tranquillity and, with its green colour, has an additional calming effect on soul and spirit.

Or if you want it to be particularly striking, we can design your wall covering of plant moss and jungle moss predominantly dense with real plants and exotic plants. Here, moss and other accents are used sporadically. This wall covering has a wild effect and is meant to imitate a jungle. The perfect eye-catcher in your hotel lobby, restaurant or for your trade fair presentation.
